“The Holy Grail is to holographically render and directly overlay the patient’s imaging to transform procedural guidance.”

3D medical applications are now a possibility, thanks to New York based company Medivis, founded by Radiologist, Christopher Morley and Neurosurgeon, Osamah Choudhry.
Read MoreWe were pleased to hear our fanbase had reached the medical world, when Chris and Osamah, who were already admirers of our work, asked us to provide user interfaces for their new 3D surgical applications. We had full access to the medical professionals and tech teams to help us understand the requirements of the technology, as well as the thought process of radiologists and surgeons. It was so important that the interface was legible and easily understood with a quick glance, especially during life-changing operations. We're incredibly proud of our work on this project; not least because we played a small part in helping Medivis improve the pathology planning process for medical professionals, and in turn, the lives of others. These applications are the future of surgery.

AR experiences seen in film can look incredible, however, in the real world, the technology is still catching up. The launch of HoloLens enabled us to realise the Medivis team’s dream of truly innovative technology for the medical industry. By creating software that could take radiography samples and turn them into a highly detailed 3D mesh, this could then be augmented onto a patient in surgery via a HoloLens headset.
“A UI designer almost needs to think like an architect or theatre designer in working in AR. The rules have changed and so we need a different way of thinking about UI to better map to the challenge. It might require a very different type of creative team to take on these new challenges and it’s these types of unique challenges we at Territory Studio thrive on.”
