Creating captivating and refined motion graphics exclusively tailored to several spaces onboard The Valiant Lady, one of the latest addition to Virgin's prestigious fleet of cruise ships. Departing from Barcelona during the summer months to explore the breathtaking Mediterranean shores, the vessel also ventures across the Atlantic during winter to discover the enigmatic Caribbean coastlines. Meticulously displayed on carefully positioned high-definition screens throughout the ship, our graphics immerse the ships’ passengers in an aquatic world lurking beneath their feet.

The creative direction leant into the ship’s destinations by creating a seamless loop of a sea-bed covered in dubloons, flanking the journey through the ocean floor with assets from Virgin’s in-cruise Casino: a roulette wheel, a slot machine and a seamlessly integrated stack of betting chips all allude to the fortunes available on the betting table above.
The graphics enter a ‘night mode’ as day turns to night. The ocean floor becomes flooded with neon and various playing card assets also join the falling coins to give the piece more space, less chaos and an increased sense of serenity. Particle simulations were installed to finish the flowing anemones with a gentle glitter and shine all collating together to remind the diners of the mystical and ethereal world bubbling beneath them.
Surrounded by opaque and fluorescent jellyfishes bobbing in the distance, this giant octopus and its fluid tentacles were rigged and hand-animated in Houdini giving an eerie buoyancy to the movements not only making the movement appear more realistic but also transpired to be an easier animation to create as opposed to key-framing the complex movements.
These neat landscape graphics will play in Sailor’s (guest) lifts. Featuring a unique and custom particle-based simulation for a nimble school of fish and a more up-close shot of the blurry jellyfish, this trio perfectly summarises the three factions designed for the ship.
