We’re really proud of our staff at Territory Studio. Even if not directly involved in the awesome work we deliver to our clients, we each appreciate creativity and being creative, in whatever format.

If you’re here, you’ve probably already seen our work. Now we invite you to get to know us better. Starting with our creative teams, we’ll be asking questions and sharing not only TS project work, but personal creative projects and what really inspires us day to day.

Tim Kilgour – 3D Lead

The real world really inspires me. Travelling to so many different countries and immersing myself in the culture has really helped my eye for design and detail, it teaches me what works and what doesn’t work.

– Tim Kilgour

Tell us a bit about you:

I am a VFX/3D Director / Artist with a background in design which spans oh so many years. I grew up watching Star Wars and Tron, which I’d have to say is what has inspired me to work in computer graphics. I have a background in design and have worked in all areas of 3D from album covers to film VFX. I’ve also worked for the BBC and was lucky enough to travel all over the globe for shoots, my favourites being Peru, South Africa, Spain and the USA.

I have been diving for 20 years around the world but I don’t do that now. I have been sailing for 20 years too and now I’m a safety instructor to junior sailors like my daughter.

Who and/or what inspires you creatively?

The real world really inspires me. Travelling to so many different countries and immersing myself in the culture has really helped my eye for design and detail, I’d say, it teaches me what works and what doesn’t work.

I love art, photography, typography, cinematography. You name an ‘ography’ and I love it, so much so that I did a foundation course on Typography Design in university. This then lead on to Multi-Discipline Design.

Maths! Maths is important: AI, new computer algorithms that we use every day and in software that we use not only for images, but pipeline and virtual production. I’m not taking maths for granted.

I love movies, good and bad. I have been really lucky with the people and projects I have worked on.

How long have you been at Territory?

18 months and counting.

What’s been your favourite TS project to work on so far and why?

‘Shanghai Fortress’ because we had a vague brief and it was my first Art Direction, but I had a great team and with smooth production, we created some lovely images.

Check out our project page for Shanghai Fortress.

I have to mention ‘Mank’ I was only creating assets for the film, but it was a pleasure to work on and another smooth production.

Check out our project page for Mank.

Why did you want to work at Territory?

Territory for a very long time was known for its Screen Graphics, however, in the recent years, they’ve been steering with more VFX work which, well, I couldn’t say no to! I love all the projects that come out of the studio, but when I saw Prometheus and the screen graphics…well need I say more!

Check out our project page for Prometheus.
