One of the human stories the series tells follows Captain Hinata Murai, an astronaut ready to embark on a year-long mission with the Japanese space programme (JASA) to stay on the International Space Station.
Territory Studio was commissioned to design the screen graphics for a number of sets including the mission control room, the satellite communications station, and the space shuttle interior sets.
Creating screen content for the mission control room at the fictional JASA space agency involved creating a design consistent aesthetic for screens depicting data dashboards, maps, video playback, countdown boards, and other operational tools and software.
Our screen graphics design was informed by a number of references to stay aligned to the directors’ vision. The space shuttle interior screens feature schema and a crucial communication link to mission control. The JASA engineers run check diagnostics as the rocket prepares for launch.
A key plot beat in the series, the satellite communications station identifies alien messages hidden inside distorted radio signals. Audio visualisation and a signal spectrogram were represented to help present the audio graphics that the engineers were working with as they analyse and process it to de-noise and find the alien communications.
Another key beat in the series plotline, a young child starts to receive seizure visions an MRI scan presents unusual activity in the brain.
